Should I relink the oracle from Oracle to Delphic Sibyl? Seems more accurate. Craig Sniffen 03:08, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Actually, I think it should be Pythia if the aim is accuracy in the sense of how a word is used rather than the actual word. Note that

The Delphic Sibyl was not involved in the operation of the Delphic Oracle and should be considered distinct from the Pythia, the priestess of Apollo.

I don't believe Civ I had cruise missiles...

Good point. Also, the links to the units, improvements and techs go to other wikipedia entries. These have no information on the meaning of the terms as it applies to the game. Shouldn't the links simply go to a Civ page describing the units, etc.? -- Aspie

No, the links describe the units as they are in the real world, which is useful. We don't have—and shouldn't have—articles on each of the Civ units. It would just cause clutter, and most would just be VfD'ed anyway. The links should stay as are.

[edit] Winning the Game in "Deity Mode" using Research

I posted a 3.25 page summary of how to win the game in "Deity Mode" without warfare. It was removed two minutes later by someone saying that is not what Wikipedia is for. Any suggestions are where to put something of that nature? The tips I presented are far better than anything I've ever come across on the intenet.

I was the user who reverted it. My reasoning is this: firstly, I believe it is against the policy stated on No Original Research. Secondly, since Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, tips and hints on how to play games don't belong here since they do not belong in an encyclopedia. This article should be about the game, not good ways on how to play it. :-) Akamad 02:07, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
I suppose my comments could be viewed as original research. If anyone knows of an appropriate place to post them, within or outside of Wikipedia, please let me know.

I played this game on PlayStation to the point of addiction and then some. A quick estimate I just came up with shows that I've spent at least 1000 hours of my life playing it thus far, most of this during the summer of 1999. I actually cut up the CD to keep myself from playing it, but then got another copy in 2001. I cut up that one, and then bought I third copy in 2004, which I still have. Help me. I've defeated it in Deity several times, but I don't think I've ever done this with a spaceship.

Thanks, Captain Jackson. I might do that. After posting here, I learned more about the game and realized that I was winning the game in Deity mode without warfare, without trading, and without "celebrating": the three common ways to help acheive a victory. I also learned that since my CD version is one of the earliest to be published, I do not enjoy as many benefits from celebrating (if I used it) as is available in later versions. I haven't played the game in a month and have been playing chess recently instead. I'm thankful that people are allowed to create pages in Wikipedia about chess strategy.

What Windows versions were supported? I now it runs under 95+ but I saw a screenshot in the manual that had Windows 3.1 buttons, yet when I tried to run it on my Win 3.1 machine to test I was told I needed a newer version of Windows. Stovetopcookies 14:23, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, as I recall, it came out right in the time period where programs ran on both, so, yes, I do think it could run on Windows 3.1. Perhaps you needed to update some other file or something, such as WinG though. Or, looking at the my Civ 2 Gold edition, it only lists Windows 95 supported, so maybe the expansions needed 95? I'm pretty sure that my copy here (Civ 2 latest patch CD-ROM) has support for Windows 3.1. It's got the Win 3.1 style windows and stuff, plus I believe the readme mentioned Win 3.1 support. I know that it definitely doesn't support any version of DOS though.--Obeejw 04:17, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

My Civ2 version 2.42 release notes show that version 1.08 added the automated settler. Improvements to this feature were made through v2.41. Entirelybs 03:30, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
