Ciudad Ojeda is a city located in the northeastern shore of Lake Maracaibo in the state of Zulia in northwestern Venezuela with a population of over 128,941 (2005 census). Ciudad Ojeda is an important oil centre.

Ciudad Ojeda was founded on January 19, 1937 by former president Eleazar Lopez Contreras as a settlement for the inhabitants of Lagunillas de Aguas. [1]. Nowadays, it has one of the biggest oil fields in Latin America and is an important commercial point in the country.

It was named in honour to the discover of Lake Maracaibo, Alonso de Ojeda

Ciudad Ojeda is medium-size city with a population of aproximately 130,000 inhabs. The majority of Citojenses are of Italian origin. It is also home to numerous foreign communities of Portuguese, Chinese and Arabs who have the biggest businessess in the city.[2]
