This template may be placed at the top of an article, if the article's sourcing problems are severe, or at the top of the "References" section of the article if minor cleanup in this regard is needed. In a long article, it can also be placed at the top of a prose section or passage in need of such cleanup, when the rest of the article is otherwise unaffected.
This template will categorise tagged articles into Category:All articles with broken or outdated citations and either Category:Articles with broken or outdated citations or a monthly category like Category:Articles with broken or outdated citations from June 2008, if a date is supplied.
The simplest way to add this template to an article is to copy and paste {{citations broken|section|date=June 2008}} at the top of the reference section in an article.
