Talk:City farm
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've thrown this up as a start at an article. The main reference source for information is the Federation of City Farms & Community Gardens website plus my own general knowledge. The sections 'Purpose and Aims' and 'History' need expanding considerably. Also, this has been written from a strictly UK perspective, as I'm not sure to what extent the 'city farm' movement translates precisely to other countries, so a more international perspective would be useful too. e.g. some sort of link to the US-focused urban agriculture article, even though this movement appears to have slightly different scale and objectives from city farms in the UK. Considering the local news and suchlike that's been going on this week regarding Los Angeles' South Central Farm, I think this is definitely a relevant topic. However, I'm not sure I could find an appropriate place to link through right now, especially considering the topic's controversial nature. I am inviting someone with softer words than I have at my hands to find a parallel with the UK's City Farms, and the USA's Urban Gardens.

My first thought was also the South Central Farmers, but most "city farms" in the US are community gardens, without animals. This was true of South Central. There is another community garden nearby, in Long Beach, that you can see from Google Maps [1]. There are residences that have chickens or sheep in residential areas, but I haven't seen them open to the public, and my impression is that the neighbors regard them as leftovers from former times, prior to the zoning laws.
