[edit] History
The origins of the club go back to 1894 when the Sheffield United Harriers club was formed, a combined cross country and walking club. In the early 1970s the Sheffield City Athletic Club was formed supported by Olympians Sheila and John Sherwood. This was a breakaway club from the Hallamshire Harriers. In 1975 this club amalgamated with Sheffield United Harriers to form Sheffield Athletics Club, who subsequently renamed the club, City of Sheffield Athletic Club competing in blue and green vests, the colours of the city of Sheffield. The club quickly established itself as the top senior athletics club in Yorkshire, became a member of the British Athletics League in 1976 and in 2006 gained promotion to the Premiership of the British Athletics League, making it one of the top eight athletics teams in Britain.
