City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Chorus

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Chorus (CBSYC) in Birmingham, England is a youth choir which performs alone, or in association with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO).

The choir was founded in 1994 and comprises two sections: the Junior Youth Chorus (CBSYC Juniors) comprising ages 8 to 12 (girls and boys) and the Senior Youth Chorus (CBSYC Seniors) from 13 to 18 (girls only). However if a junior singer has exceptional talent she is allowed into the seniors at the age of 12. The two sections perform both independently and together, with, or without the CBSO.

The choir is based at the CBSO Centre on Berkley Street. The choir also toured Sweden (Gottenburg) this year (2007) at the end of May, performing in two concerts in the Gothenberg Concert Hall.

At the moment the conducter is Shirley Court and the accompanist Jon Laird.
