City University of Hong Kong (CityU) (traditional Chinese: 香港城市大學) is one of the eight universities in Hong Kong. The university motto "敬業樂群 / Officium et Civitas" encapsulates an education philosophy that emphasizes both academic professionalism and an individual's responsibility to society.
The university has a community of more than 12,000 undergraduates and 6,000 postgraduates. International students account for around 5% of the student population. The official language of instruction is English.

Originally founded as City Polytechnic of Hong Kong in 1984, City University of Hong Kong was granted university status on 1 January 1995.
During the past 23 years, it has grown significantly from that of a small institution, housed in temporary premises, offering 9 academic programmes to less than 1,000 students, to a major University with an international reputation for teaching and scholarship. It now has an enrollment of over 20,000 students in programmes of all levels from associate degrees to PhDs.
[edit] Reputation and Ranking
The applied research and professional teaching of CityU have been well recognized in the international higher education community. CityU has been listed among the best 200 universities in the world (149th) by The Times Higher Education Supplement in U.K. and its social sciences, science, engineering and business programmes are also ranked 61st of the top 100 in the world. As well, CityU has been ranked as one of the top 10 universities in Greater China by Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003.
The Faculty of Business has achieved prestigious international recognition - EQUIS accreditation - in February 2007 after receiving AACSB International accreditation in January 2005. In March 2008, The Faculty of Business received the accreditation from the Association of MBAs(AMBA).[1]. In addition, the university's School of Law is the first in Hong Kong to offer the J.D., a graduate entry professional law degree programme.

The university is conveniently located next to Festival Walk. It is a transport hub with a bus terminus and a railway station, the MTR Kowloon Tong Station.

The Students' Union (http://su.cityu.edu.hk/) of the university is one of the most independent tertiary student bodies. Being registered as an independent association in Hong Kong, it represents more than 13,000 undergraduate and sub-degree students in CityU. The president of the Union was Sixtus Leung Chung-Hang.
