[edit] History
CTI started as a reseller of IDD services. Recognized for its excellent value and quality, it quickly became the second-largest IDD operator in Hong Kong, and was listed on The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearings (Stock Code: 1137) in 1997 and on the Nasdaq National Market (Ticker Symbol: CTEL) in New York in 1999. In 1999, it created the Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited (HKBN) as a wholly-owned subsidiary, and began offering broadband Internet access.
HKBN has invested over HK$2 billion in its own, state-of-the-art multi-play network. That network now offers the triple-play services of broadband, VoIP and IP-TV, including a variety of TV programming supported by Customer Call Centre in Guangzhou.
In June 2002, Cisco Systems announced HKBN had successfully established the largest Metro Ethernet network in the world. The network uses optical fiber to the building (FTTB) and Category 5e high-grade cables on Metro Ethernet IP technology to offer broadband access, telephony, fully-digitalized IP-TV and corporate data services.
In October 2005, HKBN became the first service provider in the world to achieve Cisco Powered Network Metro Ethernet QoS Certified status.
