City ID

City ID is a mobile Caller ID feature developed by Cequint Incorporated that automatically matches any incoming wireless call in North America with the corresponding city and state where that number is registered. The application displays the results beneath the incoming number, providing wireless subscribers with information that can assist in identifying incoming calls in addition to the number alone.
This specific geographic reference is displayed by looking up the area code and exchange (NPA-NXX) of an inbound phone number from a database stored locally on the handset. The database is updated periodically over a communications channel using standard client-server application layer methods.
On May 22, 2007, Alltel Wireless announced that City ID will now be available on select Alltel phones. Initially available on the LG AX275, City ID will be integrated into all new handsets operated by Alltel in the near future.
