City College is an academic institution located in Thessaloniki, Northern Greece. It stands for an affiliated unit of the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. The administration is mostly internal, however the college status requires some implications of the mother university from U.K. in terms of teaching standards, academic environmental aspects, facilities and the final degree certificate issuing, that is splitted in two main categories.

According to the school's history, it emerged as an institution in 1989, with the status of "City Liberal Courses". Four years later, in 1993, CITY signed a collaboration agreement with the world renowned University of Sheffield from United Kingdom, assuming the first one's responsibility of running undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Thessaloniki, Greece.

"The mission of CITY College is to maintain the highest standards of quality as an Institution of Higher Education employing staff who work at the frontiers of academic enquiry and follow the developments of the real worlds in order to educate students to become experts in their disciplines and at the same time develop into well-rounded cultures personalities who will contribute to the creation of a civilized society."

However, as a paradox, private universities are prohibited by the Greek constitution. Any private higher education institutions that exist operate with a different legal status (e.g. as Educational Centers, or as branches of foreign universities, or with the method of franchising). In any case their degrees are not recognized by the Greek state as degrees of higher education.
