The Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) is the primary law enforcement agency servicing a population of 138,143 in 773.15 square miles (2,002.4 km²) of Citrus County, Florida.[1]

The Sheriff's Office began its operations on June 2, 1887 when Citrus County was created with a move of legislation from Governor Edward A. Perry.[2]
- The Citrus County Sheriff's Office made national headlines in recent years with its investigation of the gruesome rape and murder of a 13-year-old Inverness girl.[3]

The current Sheriff is Jeffrey J. Dawsy. The CCSO is divided into two bureaus:[4] [5]
- Law Enforcement Bureau- headed by the Bureau Commander, this bureau oversees the patrol, criminal investigation, and emergency management divisions.
- Administrative Bureau- headed by the Bureau Commander, this bureau oversees Judicial Services, staff, finance, human resources (recruiting), and information services, as well as Special Projects personnel.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is a full-service policing department charged with the protection of life and property to the residents and visitors of Citrus County, Florida.
