La Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany is a French speaking high school in the School District 3 of New Brunswick. It is located in the city of Edmundston in the Madawaska County. It was named after Dr. Albert M. Sormany.

[edit] Vision, Mission and Values

Vision: La Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany will be for every student having attended it, a stage of personal development and life experience having actively contributed in the education of a balanced person, conscious of his/her own unique potential and able to realize his/her proper role in a society in perpetual change.

Mission: In a climate of mutual respect between all participants to this aforementioned task, the mission of the Cité des Jeunes is to accompany each student in the development of his Francophone identity, of his intellectual, moral and social abilities that will permit him/her to become autonomous in responding to his/her own needs and at the same time that he/she will be responsible, productive and creative in society.

Values: Respect, responsibility, autonomy, belonging and pride.[1]

La Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany has over a thousand students attending. According to the 2006-2007 student census, precisely 1349 students attend this institution. Grade 9, 10, 11 and 12 are admitted including handicapped students.

The standard curriculum of the institution is divided in the following departments:

Its optional classes curriculum is one of the most varied in the province of New Brunswick with optional classes available in all aforementioned subjects. This includes such subjects as drama, sewing, dance and astronomy.

[edit] "La Chaîne Humaine"

La Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany is renowned for its annual community food and fund raising for the local food bank ("R.A.D.O.") in Edmundston. The students gather over a hundred thousand food items (as well as other household items) every year. This event is organised by the school's humanitarian committee operated by teachers and students. The high school has a school mascot named Cidji. [3]

The name was coined by a student during a name-the-mascot contest.
