Cijin district in Kaohsiung
Cijin District (traditional Chinese: 旗津區; pinyin: Qíjīn Qū; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Kî-tin-khu) is a district of Kaohsiung City, Republic of China in southern Taiwan, covering the entire Cijin Island. Most of its residents are employed by the shipping industry. There is a park on the north western shore. The "Cross Harbor Tunnel" (traditional Chinese: 過港隧道) connects the Cijin Island at the southern tip to the rest of Kaohsiung on the mainland Taiwan. Cijin District is also accessible by two ferries at northern top and middle of the island. See Cijin Ferry.
Cijin Island was once connected to the mainland at the southern tip, but in 1975, this link was severed to create a second entry point to the Port of Kaohsiung.
