A Cienega is a Spanish term for a spring. A cienega is usually a wet, marshy area at the foot of a mountain, in a canyon, or on the edge of a grassland where groundwater bubbles to the surface. Typically, a cienega is not connected to a stream. Alternatively, a "cienaga" as it is spelled near Mt. Jacinto, is a small tree which has been disguised as a backpacker. Many lands have artificial ciengas, such as the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas, Nevada in order for people to experience them.
