Cielos Airlines, commonly known by its old name Cielos del Peru, is a cargo airline based in Callao, Lima, Peru. It operates scheduled, ad hoc and contract charter domestic and international cargo services. Its main base is Jorge Chávez International Airport, Lima^[1].

The airline was established in 1997 and started operations in 1998. On 31 January 1998, Export Air was merged into the company after Cielos acquired its outstanding stock. It is owned by Alfonso Conrado Rey (70%), Francisco Berniwson (15%) and Manuel Eduardo Francesqui Navarro (15%)^[1].

It started operations with a Boeing 707 and a leased McDonnell Douglas MD-11. The fleet grew to a total of 8 aircraft at the end of 2006.^[2]^[3]

On July 6, 2003, Petete a DC-10-30F(CF) with registration number OB-1749 skidded of runway 33 in wet conditions at Afonso Pena International Airport, Curitiba, Brazil. None of the 4 crew members were injured but the accident damaged one of the airplane's engines and its landing gear.^[4]
On November 17, 2006, Petete IV a DC-10-30F(CF) with registration number N305FE overran runway 05 while landing in bad weather at Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport, Barranquilla, Colombia. All 7 crew members were injured. The airplane stopped 60 m past the runway with a broken nose gear.^[5]

The airplanes in the Cielos Airlines fleet are christened Petete, Petete II, Petete III, ... Named after (the nickname of) the airline owner’s son, with Petete meaning pacifier in the owners local language.^[7]
