CieloBuio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CieloBuio-Coordinamento per la protezione del cielo notturno (in English coordination for the protection of the night sky) is an Italian non-profit organization whose goal is the safeguarding of the night sky by promoting the culture of an eco-compatible lighting and conducting information campaigns on the phenomenon called light pollution. Born in Lombardy in 1997, CieloBuio now claims members from whole Italy, not only astronomers but also ecologists and lighting engineers.

CieloBuio coordinates the efforts against light pollution by promoting and supporting in Italy the Lombardy act n. 17/2000, one of the most advanced in the world. In the last years, it played a crucial role in the approval of similar bills in Italy, like the ones adopted by the regions Marche (in 2002), Emilia-Romagna (in 2003), Abruzzo (in 2005), Puglia (in 2005), Umbria (in 2005) and Friuli-Venezia Giulia (in 2007). Moreover, the Lombardy act n. 17/2000 inspired the text of the national bills of the Czech Republic (2002) and of Slovenia (2007).

CieloBuio operates in collaboration with the Italian section of the International Dark-Sky Association and the Unione Astrofili Italiani.
