Ciao (ちゃお Chao?) is a Japanese shōjo manga magazine published by Shogakukan for young girls (about 9-13 years old). The first issue was launched in 1977. The circulation is about 1 million, the largest among shōjo manga magazines in Japan[citation needed]. Formerly, the magazine attached paper crafts, but now attaches various goods (cosmetics, watches, pencils, notebooks, etc.) that are different every month. The magazine's competitors are Ribon and Nakayoshi.
