Funagain Games is a board and table game retailer. Funagain maintains a physical shop and warehouse in Ashland, Oregon, but is best known for its online shop. Funagain carries a variety of games, but specializes in german-style board games and other imports.
Founded in 1996, the company derived its name from its practice of collecting used copies and parts of old and out of print games. These incomplete sets were then combined into complete editions for re-sale. After a few years, Funagain decided to offer something new to American consumers and began importing German-style board games. Since that time, Funagain has grown to be a leading seller of board and card games from all over the world, with a catalog of over 2,000 games.[1][2]
Funagain Games has utilized their size and influence to form exclusive distribution deals with different game publishers. Funagain has been the exclusive distributor for Sunriver Games products[3][4], Alan Moon's Slow Freight, Carcassonne: The Discovery and several other titles.[5]. On August 4, 2006, Funagain Games purchased the entire inventory of game publisher, Eagle Games, known for their high-production value historical wargames.[6]. Brick and mortar retailers can only acquire these board games by joining Funagain's FRED (Funagain Retail Exclusive Distributor) group and buying them from Funagain.[7]
As well as game retailing and distribution, Funagain is also involved in game manufacturing. For example, in 2006 Funagain and Sunriver Games entered into a partnership to manufacture the game Incan Gold (an English version of the game Diamant).[8]
