Church of Tornio. Drawing by Réginald Outhier (1694-1774).
The tower of the church was used as southern end of the 1 degree meridian arc measured by the Torne Valley expedition of the French Geodesic Mission (1736–1737). Outhier was one of the members of the expedition.
