Chutzpah (band)

Chutzpah is a Los Angeles-based Jewish Rap group that calls itself the first-ever Jewish hip-hop supergroup. It records for Jewish Music Group and have an album called Eponymous and a DVD called Chutzpah, This Is? which has its world premiere at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado. The group consists of Master Tav,the ex-cantorial student turned emcee; MC Meshugenah, the slightly unhinged one; Jewdah, the Jewish Rastafarian Philosopher emcee; and its fearless leader Dr. Dreck, thought by some to actually be the actor George Segal.

Chutzpah's film Chutzpah, This Is? was also an Official Selection at the Newport Beach; Cedar Rapids Independent; Mt. Shasta International; and Washington, DC, Jewish Film Festivals and received an audience pick at the LA Jewish Film Festival.

The video for its single "Chanukah's Da Bomb" was aired on MTV and was screened in numerous film festivals on its own, including the Other Venice, the Toronto Jewish, and the Hong Kong Jewish Film Festivals.

Gary Oldman, who made a cameo in their film has signed on to direct its next video for the track "Red Rover," which is the first single from its second album, Chutzpah Is..., scheduled for release in Spring 2007. However, Chutzpah's second album is actually titled Hip Hop Fantasy and is scheduled for a May 20008 release. Featured guests are Grandmaster Melle Mel (of the Furious Five)—who also wrote the liner notes; Deborah Harry; Isaac Hayes; MC Chenjerai (The Spooks); Jewish emcees Etan G, Eshy, and Josue Noriega (Hip Hop Hoodios); and a host of other celebrity guests including Gary Oldman!
