Churchill Peninsula

Churchill Peninsula (66°30′S, 62°45′W) is an ice-covered cove between Cabinet and Adie Inlets, extending some 30 miles (48 km) in a southeast direction from the east coast of Graham Land. Photographed from the air by the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE) and charted from the ground by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) during 1947. Named by the FIDS for Rt. Hon. (later Sir) Winston S. Churchill, M.P., Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and leader of the War Cabinet which authorized the FIDS in 1943.
