Chulym (town)

Chulym (Russian: Чулым) is a town in Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Chulym River some 131 km west of Novosibirsk. Population: 12,100 (2005 est.); 12,275 (2002 Census); 13,703 (1989 Census).

Chulym was founded in 1762 as a settlement of Chulymskoye (Чулымское) due to the construction of the Siberian Route (Сибирский тракт). In 1898, a railroad was built through the settlement. In 1947, Chulym was granted town status.
