Chulanur

Chulanur is a small village in Palakkad district of Kerala state, south India. Chulanur is famous for the Peacock Sanctuary. Main income source of people are from agriculture. It is under Alathur taluk - Peringottukurussi panchayath. There is one Upper Primary school, health center, Govt. Ayur vedic hospital (working on selected days only) etc. in this small village. There are 4-5 buses doing service through the side of peacock sanctuary. Bus route - Palakkad - peringottukurissy - chulanur or alathur - pazhambalakode - chulanur. It is surrounded by small hills partially with forest. Main cultivation is paddy and rubber. Also you can find coconuts, vegetables etc. in the village.
Chulanur has also got a rich heritage. It hosts a annual festival called Chulanur Vela which is celebrated with great pomp during the month of Medamasam of the malayali calendar year. Till recent years the village was not connected by roads nor did it have power supply in its two hundred odd houses that dot this village. Today there has been a vast improvement in the infrastructure while still retaining its ethereal charm. Many of the inhabitants have moved to distant places finding employment in Tamil Nadu or the United Arab Emirates.
