Chuckanut Formation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Chuckanut Formation is a geological layer found in western Washington, USA, and is the layer composing part of the Chuckanut Mountains. It is overlain by the top layer, Huntingdon Formation. The Chuckanut Mountains are known for their Tertiary Period fossils.
[edit] Fossil mammal trackways
Eocene fossil trackways are found in the Chuckanut Formation, composed of both birds and animals, including mammals and some turtle tracks.
It is thought that the Chuckanut Formation shoreline was of riverine environments combined with a large scale "bedding plane" of material deposition. Four deposition or track sites are known.
