Chuck Cecil's Swingin' Years is a radio program hosted by veteran broadcaster Chuck Cecil. The program is out of Los Angeles, California.
Chuck Cecil's Swingin' Years began broadcasting in 1956. The program focuses primarily on the swing and big band eras (roughly 1930-1955) and includes trivia, interviews, music and other features.
In 2002, Mr. Cecil celebrated nearly 50 years of broadcasting in Los Angeles. Cecil broadcast the program live on west coast flamethrower KFI into the early 70s.
Since 1956, "The Swingin' Years" was syndicated on nearly a dozen stations including the former KJYK 94.1 FM Tucson, AZ. At one time, the program enjoyed success on New England powerhouse WCAP (980 kHz), the most powerful station north of Boston, before that facility's format evolved to talk.
The big band format has faded in recent years and since the early 90's, there has only been a select few radio stations that still play big band.
KKJZ 88.1 FM (Long Beach, California) broadcasts the Swingin' Years on Saturday and Sundays from 6AM To 9AM Pacific time, and also streams the program over the Internet. The show is syndicated on eight other stations, most of them in California. Others are scattered around the country in places like Georgia and New Hampshire.
