[edit] naming
I think we should strive to name the articles in this category consistently:
- my personal opinion would be that it's a good idea to use English unless there's a good reason not
- most of the articles are titled 'Church ..., Warsaw' but the article about St. Hyacinth's has 'in Warsaw' and St. Alexander's has nothing at all (even though I'm sure there are churches in a great lot of other cities dedicated to this saint)
- the church of the St. Casimir of the Sisters of the Perpetual Adoration of the Holy Sacrament is wrongly labeled as the church of the Holy Sacrament
I'd suggest calling the articles as 'Church of %Saint, Warsaw' or '%Order Church, Warsaw' (depending on the common usage), except for the Field Cathedral which is best known as the Field Cathedral.
Therefore, I'd suggest the following series of moves:
- Church of the Holy Sacrament, Warsaw → Church of St. Casimir, Warsaw
-
- -->St. Kazimierz Church. Nihil novi 02:01, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Kościół Wizytek → Visitationist Church, Warsaw (there's also a very nice church of the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary in Wilno dedicated to the Sacred Heart so the title Kościół Wizytek is ambiguous)
-
- → Visitationist Church. The Vilnius church can add "Vilnius," if it wishes. Nihil novi 17:51, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Holy Cross Church, Warsaw → Church of the Holy Cross, Warsaw (the previous isn't incorrect but just for consistency)
-
- Keep "Holy Cross Church, Warsaw." Consistency for mere consistency's sake is no virtue. Nihil novi 15:47, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- St. Alexander's Church → Church of St. Alexander, Warsaw
-
- Keep "St. Alexander's Church." Since there is no other "St. Alexander's Church" on Wikipedia, be happy and keep things simple! Nihil novi 15:47, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- St. Jacek's Church in Warsaw → Church of St. Hyacinth, Warsaw
-
- -->St. Hyacinth's Church. Nihil novi 01:26, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- St Martin's Church, Warsaw → Church of St. Martin, Warsaw
-
- Keep "St Martin's Church, Warsaw." Placing a saint's name in the first position distinguishes the church immediately, instead of inducing a blurred cascade of "Churches..." But add a period after the "St." Nihil novi 15:53, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Kościół św. Anny → Church of St. Anna, Warsaw
-
- →St. Anne's Church, Warsaw. Regrettably, there are plenty of "St. Anne's Churches" on the Wikipedia. Nihil novi 16:16, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Kościół Jezuitów → Church of Our Lady of Grace, Warsaw
-
- →Jesuit Church. That seems to be what it is commonly called by the Poles. "Warsaw" not needed: there is no other "Jesuit Church" on the Wikipedia. Nihil novi 16:16, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

- btw similar applies to Category:Churches in Poland by city in general. --212.76.33.79 21:55, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
-
- I think we should specify in the title the articles are about churches in Warsaw even if at the moment there aren't any articles about churches dedicated to the same saints in other places. --Grzegorz Chrząszcz vel Brzęszczykiewicz 18:02, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
[edit] On English names
Yes, I know it is the English Wikipedia, mainly for English-speaking people from around the world - see and compare: Französischer Dom, Stadtschloss, Berlin, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Zoologischer Garten Berlin, Berliner Dom, Rotes Rathaus, Votivkirche, Augustinerkirche, Jesuitenkirche, Vienna, Ruprechtskirche, Kapuzinerkirche, Dresdner Frauenkirche, Grünes Gewölbe etc, etc, etc... - all those titles strike me as bad practice although perhaps they are well known to the English speaking audiance (similarly to how for example the name Notre-Dame de Paris in more recognizable then Our Lady of Paris). I doubt if the churches in Warsaw are that well known. --212.76.33.79 22:17, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- I'd suggest moving this discussion to a wider forum; WP:PWNB is probably the best one.-- Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus | talk 17:07, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- "the Germans are doing it" doesn't strike me as a good argument. --Grzegorz Chrząszcz vel Brzęszczykiewicz 18:02, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
