[edit] NFLPA
Register at NFLPA.org (no strings attached, I did a few weeks ago), and then use this link. Pats1 T/C 19:59, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Doesn't look functional yet, but I did just get the link a second ago. Pats1 T/C 20:04, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hello thanks/McNair
Thanks for informing me, but on Brett Favre's page it says former so I put former on McNair's page. Thanks.
- Yeah but basically that's just because too many people don't understand it. It's not correct there and it's not correct on McNair's page.►Chris NelsonHolla! 17:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
No Your pretty much wrong, my McNair edits and the Favre page is correct, you shouldn't use favre's page as an example because it looks exactly the way I edited McNair's page to look. 67.180.86.119 (talk) 20:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Helping with refs?
Why is it that when I enter refs in between the <.ref> signs (no dots), if I save the page and then click on the ref, it says "cite#0" and doesn't move and the link isn't on the bottom of the page?
[edit] Merit Meyer (American football)
This article was created by a vandal. It needs to be deleted. Merit Meyer (American football). --Street20 (talk) 03:56, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Well usually people watch newly-created articles and delete them. I don't know where they go to see it but I think there's a way. Anyway, there's not much I can do. I'd tell Pats1.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:57, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] multi-link stats template
thanks for telling me, ill be sure to use, by the way what do you think about the Dolphins taking Jake Long first overall?--Yankees10 23:43, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- He wasn't my first choice, but I'm fine with it.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:11, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Originally
Do you think I should put the word originally in the drafted players intros, because like 5 people have removed them--Yankees10 20:51, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Good idea, I am still going to add the cats and templates though--Yankees10 20:52, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah sounds good. The way I figure it, if I standardize infoboxes and intros now, it'll all be edited throughout the day and I'll still have to watch them and fix them.►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:53, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- Yeah, it becomes a huge pain when people just mess them all up--Yankees10 20:56, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- Yeah I'd just give up until it all dies down.►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:56, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- I do not think it makes any sense to put that word for a player still with the team that drafted him in the first place. Yankeesfan10 told me to contact you about this. The player in question was drafted today and has not been traded. CopaceticThought (talk) 23:43, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- "Originally" does not imply he's no longer with the team. It just means that's where his career has started. We're just trying to keep intros consistent.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:45, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
- I looked at the pages of a few players still with their original teams and none of them said "originally": Dwayne Bowe, Larry Johnson (American football), Vince Young... CopaceticThought (talk) 23:48, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- It's a long process standardizing infoboxes and intros.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:49, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
Well Others like Dallas Clark, Terrell Suggs, Jermaine Phillips, Chad Johnson, Zach Thomas, and basically every other player signed during this offseason do--Yankees10 23:54, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- CopaceticThought, you're just putting emphasis on the wrong part of the sentence. Take like... Carson Palmer for example. He IS a player for the Bengals. He was ORIGINALLY drafted by them first overall in 2003. That makes perfect sense to say. It doesn't imply he's not playing for them now.►Chris NelsonHolla! 23:55, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tyrell Johnson (American football)
Can you help me out with something, this guy keeps adding commentary and opinions on the Tyrell Johnson (American football) page and is trying to get me blocked for the 3RR rule, which I didn't violate. Can you help me get rid of the stuff he adds if he adds it again, I dont want to be blocked.--Yankees10 02:34, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah no problem. Some of it's decent info (leading safeties in bench reps, the trade up, etc.) but none of it is written in a real neutral tone. I'll keep an eye on it.►Chris NelsonHolla! 02:40, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- Yeah I kind of didnt pay attention to all of it, some of it probably should have stayed, thanks--Yankees10 02:59, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- If you didn't pay attention to all of it, and you're participating to edit warring reverting pages four and five times without putting anything on the discussion page, maybe you do deserve a ban for a day or two don't you think?
- And you still haven't said why you repeatedly reverted additions to the article or discussed it on the discussion page. If it's not in a neutral tone, the policy is to improve it so it is neutral instead of reverting it all out. Let me ask you this Yankees10, do you feel you are helping Wikipedia more than you are hurting it? If so, how do you explain all your edit warring?[2] [3] [4]. This much is not normal. So much of this is going on that you're coming places like here seeking allies. You must realize that this kind of behavior is more damaging than helpful. 67.137.0.28 (talk) 06:03, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Chad Henne
Question: At the bottom of the page it says he's the incumbent for the wolverines, even though he was drafted. Should that be fixed? RC-0722 247.5/1 02:59, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
-
- I never cared for the word Incumbent in there. It says "Succeeded by", and if the guy is the incumbent the that's NOT him.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:04, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NFL infoboxes
I was just trying to get the edits in as quickly as possible (it really is aggravating to have an entire new infobox in and an updated lead only to have an edit conflict with someone who added a single line saying "so-and-so just got drafted" or putting a pro team in the NCAA infobox). I'll look at your work (frankly, I thought the issue would be that the honors from the NCAA don't need to be in the pro box), but honestly I was just cutting and pasting from the NCAA infoboxes for all of them. Tromboneguy0186 (talk) 03:47, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah that's what I figured. College awards are fine, though in my experience I've only kept major ones (no SI.com third-team All-Sun Belt stuff haha) and if there become too many of them, I simply make a sub-section in his College career section and link to it in the infobox, as I have at Jake Long.►Chris NelsonHolla! 03:52, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds good, I'll take a look at them (and tomorrow's picks, for which there should be considerably fewer edit conflicts) over the next few days. Tromboneguy0186 (talk) 03:55, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

They dont show up the Category:Atlanta Falcons players and Category:Baltimore Ravens players.--Yankees10 04:31, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah for some reason, they are only in the sub-cats and not the primary one. Since that's the case, those sub-cats are kind of useless I guess.►Chris NelsonHolla! 04:32, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lorenzo Booker
I'm not complaining or anything because the Eagles got him but why did your team get rid of Lorenzo Booker? Thanks --Phbasketball6 (talk) 13:36, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- I imagine he just wasn't their kind of back. He's a very good receiver and has great moves, and he's good for Philly. I guess they just wanted more picks and want another kind of back.►Chris NelsonHolla! 14:03, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

-
- True, but that's just because it was unexpected. He was only a third-down back though. He'll be damn good if a team uses him right.►Chris NelsonHolla! 14:05, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Eagles need him really back as a backup so I'm glad they got him. --Phbasketball6 (talk) 14:21, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] UDFAs
Wow, this has been crazy, as usual. Impossible to keep up with the rate the guys are being signed, the false reports (at least 5 for the Pats), and other editors screwing things up here and there (alpha order, positions, etc.). I've gone through the AFC East and North so far just to check things out back to Friday and see if any vandalism slipped through, while fixing any minor errors/link errors I could find. I also compared notes with KFFL as to UDFAs signed. However, even KFFL has 5 guys signing with the Pats who either have not really signed yet, or are only coming in for tryouts. Our best bet, I think, is to wait for ProFW to make their updates, and then do a tedious comparison to check for any false reports and missed signings. The good thing is that we'll be able to notice the false reports, as we'll never get numbers for them from the official sites. Pats1 T/C 01:02, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

- I'll keep a running list of the teams that I've reeled back in, including ProFW and team website double-checks: Broncos, Steelers, Rams, Redskins, Saints, Dolphins, Patriots, Colts, Falcons, Chiefs, Bills, Jets, Cardinals, Panthers, Bears, Bengals, Browns, Cowboys, Lions, Ravens, Packers, Texans, Jaguars, Giants, Raiders, Vikings, Eagles, Chargers, Seahawks, Buccaneers, Titans, 49ers. I'll be keeping close watch on those to make sure things stay back in our customary accuracy range, including a team-wide number check (as I've done for all the listed teams). As for the others, they'll remained turned loose until ProFW or team websites get to them. Pats1 T/C 23:02, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Chris Long Uni number
Defensive Chris Long, the No. 2 overall pick by the Rams, will need a new jersey number since Leonard Little has No. 91, Long's college number. Don't expect No. 75, worn by Hall of Fame dad Howie Long. "I think I'm cool with the pressure," Chris Long said. [edit] Page move question
I was wondering why you moved Alex Rodriguez to Álex Rodríguez. Most places I have looked (Yankees.com, ESPN, CBS Sportsline, Baseball Reference, Baseball Almanac, and Alex's own official website) do not have the accent marks listed with his name. The only site I saw with the accent marks was Yahoo Sports. Usually the most common English form is used. --Michael Greiner 16:17, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Most english websites don't post players' names with the accent marks. In any case, his name with accent marks included should be "Alex Rodríguez", without an accent mark above the 'A'. Ksy92003 (talk) 16:21, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- I don't believe that's true. It's Ah-lex.►Chris NelsonHolla! 16:51, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- Yes, the stress is on the first syllable. However, in spanish, when the stress comes on the penultimate syllable, there is only an accent mark on the vowel if the word ends in a vowel, 'N', or 'S'. There isn't an accent mark if the word ends in any other letter, such as in this case, where the word ends in an 'X'. Ksy92003 (talk) 17:02, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Atlanta Braves Game Log
I noticed that you have reverted my edit which placed the Game Log in the main article 2008 Atlanta Braves season. The members of the Baseball WikiProject have decided here that it is more appropriate for the game log to be in the article itself, to make it easier to update. I understand your reasoning for the reversion, however we have decided that it is unnecessary to have a template just for one article. --Willy No1lakersfan (Talk - Contribs) 16:13, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Mkristo Bruce
As I said I'd do a couple days ago, I contacted the Arizona Rattlers' team president, asking to be directed to the person who wrote the player biographies for the website. He gave me the address of the Director of Public Relations for the team, whom I asked him about this little discussion we had Friday in regards to Mkristo Bruce's player bio. Here is the e-mail that he returned to me:
- "We use a variety of different sources when compiling our biographies and the writer does not remember which ones he used in that particular case, being that it was written almost two months ago."
So I guess that puts an end to this. Due to the "completeness" (not necessarily "accuracy") of our Wikipedia articles, Wikipedia was in all likelihood a source for some of that information. And I wouldn't bet against you in this case, that the sentence in question came from your writing. So I'd like to apologize to you for questioning who the author of that sentence truly is. I'm sorry. Ksy92003 (talk) 20:11, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
- Haha it's fine. I'm surprised you were so skeptical, I thought it was pretty obvious. I'm also surprised you went through the lengths you did.►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:12, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
-
- Part of it was my own personal curiosity. I was skeptical about it mostly because that was the only sentence I saw that was similar (until I noticed the similarity of the awards section, as well) and didn't think it was likely that they would use only one sentence, especially one as basic as that. Of course, when I noticed the awards section as well, that made me second-guess myself. Ksy92003 (talk) 20:17, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
-
-
- Well I think the wording along with the identical links was a dead giveaway. I've pretty much never seen links to Wikipedia, they'd never do that on their own.►Chris NelsonHolla! 20:18, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] infobox
Look, I see you have a personal interest in proliferating NFLactive and it's fine if the WikiProject NFL wants to use that template for players who only play in NFL but it's inappropriate for those playing in other leagues. Gridiron football person is designed for general all-around use and players of multiple leagues. NFLactive has no place for CFL stats, it forces a header for NFL debut, it's just plain designed with a currently playing NFL player in mind. Frankly, he's no longer NFL-active so I don't see why it's on his article anyway but I'll leave Bethel for now, since it's unknown if he'll ever play in the CFL, but if he does, it needs to be updated to a multi-league player infobox: IFgp. DoubleBlue (Talk) 22:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- The template is not complete and we can add anything you want. I already added the CFL status to list him as an import, which I agree is something that needs to be there. But quite frankly, I see nothing in the infobox you added to his page that my infobox doesn't include now.►Chris NelsonHolla! 01:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kory Robertson
Since you're the only user to have done anything significant with Kory Robertson and you're requesting it for deletion, I have placed a {{db-author}} tag for it do be deleted per G7 (only author requests deletion). You can use this in any case where you're the only person to have made substantial edits. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshells•Otter chirps) 01:07, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

This is a Steve McNair/Warren Sapp situation right, reagarding the infobox.--Yankees10 22:41, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Essentially, but with such high-profile players it might not even be worth trying to keep accurate. If he ever came back we could just change it back.►Chris NelsonHolla! 00:06, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- I don't think it's worth regulating. We're the only dorks that know how the system works anyway. If a guy ever came back we'd just restore the infobox.►Chris NelsonHolla! 06:15, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I dug up his DOB if you need it: [6]. Pats1 T/C 20:30, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Other stuff
I added some parameters to the color templates, so I could put the right colors for each Patriots season (i.e. primary red for the 70s and 80s). But to do that I had to add a New England Patriots71thru92 parameter, and if I add that to the corresponding infoboxes, it will mess up the next/previous links (and I don't want to manually put all of those in). So do you know how to tweak the Template:Infobox NFL season so it adds a "color =" field or something that would override the regular color system? Pats1 T/C 21:11, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- To be completely honest, a summer fling has caused me to be very interested in Wikipedia.►Chris NelsonHolla! 21:20, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
