[edit] Bolding dates

I think that if the years were bolded, then navigation would be much easier. If you have any objections, then just notify me here within the next few days, before I begin. Thanks! Malinaccier Public (talk) 17:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hermione older than Harry?

Is the 1979 date correct for Hermione? That would make her a year older than Harry which doesn't seem to be consistent with the books or films (that said there might be an explicit reference in one of the later books that I missed). 23skidoo (talk) 16:13, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

According to Rowling, Students must be 11 years old (by the first day of school - Sept 1) to attend Hogwarts. Her birthday fell on Sept 19, so she had to wait nearly a year and thus is several months older than average for her class. By contrast, Harry turned 11 years old only a month before the school opened, so he is a few months younger than average. These two represent the range of ages for their class. See this for more info. --T-dot ( Talk/contribs ) 16:20, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Hermione is definitely older then Harry. Remember she (and Ron) reached age and was able to take the appration test before Harry. Nil Einne (talk) 18:49, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] PlayStation

This is probably too minor and ORy to mention but didn't Dudley receive a PlayStation in HP1? These didn't exist in 1991 of course. Also did JK ever give a reason why she choose the chronology (I would have expected her to set book 1 around 1995 or so when she was wriiting it)? Or did it just happen by accident perhaps as a result of the Nearly Headless Nick thing? Nil Einne (talk) 18:49, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Actually I just took a look back and it was a new computer and 16 computer games. No problem there then Nil Einne (talk) 10:23, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

The Playstation was mentioned in the fourth book in what would have been September 1994 so the Playstation still wasn't around back then in the real world. (Tk420 (talk) 14:46, 2 March 2008 (UTC))

[edit] Timeline in the books and the films?

If the films are supposed to be set in the same timeline as the books there are a number of timeline errors that are noticeable. e.g. GNER trains in Kings Cross (this was after 1997) and the dates of death on the Riddles tombstone (1943). I think the films are set ten years after the books but I don't know because of the timeline errors. (Tk420 (talk) 15:00, 2 March 2008 (UTC))

In the first film they even show a newspaper dated 2001 — and yet on one of the DVDs they include a timeline consistent with the books. Ultimately I suspect they don’t care, and would prefer people not to look too closely. David Arthur (talk) 18:29, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Real world/Fictional world

Regarding the paragraphs in the Chronology of the Harry Potter stories#Contradictions contradictions section which refer to the inconsistencies with real world Prime Ministers and games consoles - is there a source where J.K. Rowling or another reliable source either mentions the examples directly or explicitly states that the events and history of the Fictional Harry Potter universe are exactly the same (except for Wizards, etc.) as those in the real world. If not I think the paragraphs should be removed as original research by synthesis, just becasue something happened in the real world does not mean it happened in a fictional universe and without confirmation from a reliable source it is just speculation on the part of the editor, Wikipedia is not a publisher of original thought. Guest9999 (talk) 11:58, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not 100% but I'm at least pretty sure that JKR have talked, or given a comment to the Playstation thing. And i've always seen it as it is meant that you should believe that the "Harry Potter world" is out world, just that the Wizard part is hidden for us etc :) But back to the point, the thing with the PS, i'm pretty sure she's said something about that numbers, and years never was her strong side and that's why you might think the book illustrates 1997/98/99 etc, with the playstations and the computers and the hightech from the later 90's when the book is suppose to take place in the early 90's... I'll search the internet for it ;) Chandlertalk 13:12, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
To add, they might at least be under some sort of "inconsistency" section, as there are lots of them. Chandlertalk 13:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I've added {{fact}} tags in the hope that sources can be found. Guest9999 (talk) 15:52, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Death dates

Where did some of the death dates, like for Sirius (June 17, 1996) and Dumbledore (June 29, 1997), come from? Each date only has its respective chapter as a source, and the books don't name specific dates for those deaths. The Lexicon doesn't have any mention of specific dates, either. Are these dates fake, or did Rowling specify them somewhere else? — Spanish lullaby (talk) 19:41, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hagrid Gamekeeper?

The article states that Hagrid should have been gamekeeper during Molly Weasly's time at Hogwarts. I'm pretty sure that it mentions somewhere in Book 2 that Molly was around when Hagrid was framed by Tom Riddle for opening the Chamber of Secrets the first time round. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.67.162.14 (talk) 04:02, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
