Notable Song

I disagree with the position that this song is not notable. It is, on the contrary, one of John McCutcheon's most famous songs and a staple of the Folk genre from 1980s. Rudy Breteler (talk) 20:01, 28 January 2008 (UTC) I have removed the prod template. It was placed up before I was finished creating the article. Please give me time, I am relatively unexperienced with creating articles from scratch. Rudy Breteler (talk) 20:04, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think it will survive an AFD - certainly not in its present unreferenced and spammy form - but a google test shows it at least has a fighting chance of being salvageable. — iridescent 20:05, 28 January 2008 (UTC) What do you mean by "spammy?" I'm not taking issue with you, I'm just curious, I'm trying to learn how to become a more constructive Wikipedian. I don't see how this article is all that much different then many other articles about individual songs which exist on Wikipedia. Rudy Breteler (talk) 20:30, 28 January 2008 (UTC) [edit]Advice Further to the above, I think you need some advice if this isn't to be deleted. First and foremost, it needs to have reliable independent sources to verify the information. Also, it needs independent sources to demonstrate its notability by Wikipedia standards, which only a few songs pass. The policy in question is Most songs do not merit an article and should redirect to another relevant article, such as for a prominent album or for the artist who wrote or prominently performed the song. Songs that have been ranked on national or significant music charts, that have won significant awards or honors or that have been performed independently by several notable artists, bands or groups are probably notable. A separate article is only appropriate when there is enough verifiable material to warrant a reasonably detailed article; permanent stubs should be merged to articles about an artist or album. Wikipedia isn't a directory of everything; unless you can show that the song itself is not only notable by Wikipedia standards but that enough material exists to demonstrate why it's significant, the appropriate place for this is in an article on the artist or album, not as a stand-alone article. — iridescent 20:29, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you very much- I will do just that. I only created this article an hour ago, I'm not as fast as some of the more seasoned Wikipedians, but I'm learning. Rudy Breteler (talk) 20:31, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] article deleted too quickly

I had not yet had 10 minutes to correct the errors which were stated by others when this article was deleted. In re-making it, I gave it the wrong title, and I am not sure how to change the title back to what it should be, which is Christmas in the Trenches (song). I am not too experienced with this. By deleting pages before new editors even have a chance to bring them to life, you only discourage participation by new people, which is highly against Wikipedia's stated goals.
