Talk:Christianity and politics

Some thoughts:
The "history of political ideas" overlaps with this topic.
Different Christian sects and politics (eg Quakers, monasticism and withdrawing from the world, various sects being excluded from various political offices (eg the British Catholic Emancipation Act etc).
There could be various parallel articles for other faiths.

- You are quite correct. If this article is to succeed, it should provide a fairly brief overview, and point readers to articles where specific subjects are discussed in greater detail. Smerdis of Tlön 16:09, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- Sometimes listing the points to be covered can be useful - so those who know more about the subject(s) know where to start.
- The topic has to be covered from various angles - the religion/sect's view of how society and the political arrangements therein should be handled (eg attitudes towards charging interest and usury), how people of a religion or sect operate within a political environment and the causes they promote because of that religion (eg Elizabeth Fry and slavery) and how the state as a secular entity deals with that particular religion or sect, and relationships between sects and religions.
I am using sect in the neutral sense of "subdivision of a religion."
There should also be reference to Concordats, the distinction between the Vatican and the Holy See, the British monarch as head of the Anglican Church and to Mount Athos, and the exclusion of Catholics from certain political and other offices.
I created the page Interreligious relations a while ago - there might be some overlap with this topic.

[edit] Somewhere to look
There are many politically active Christian Reverends..... very conservative ones from the South, then more liberal ones like Jesse Jackson from the North..... you really should look into expanding there.

Not to mention Ian Paisley, Desmond Tutu et al.
[edit] Religion and politics
I started the above to be the hub article for the various equivalent pages to this one - more information welcome, including to the religion and class section (so it can revert to being a page of its own). Jackiespeel 21:55, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
