I have a concern that this individual does not meet WP:ATHLETE and so this article should be deleted. - CobaltBlueTony™ _talk 13:56, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Per WP:ATHLETE, "Competitors and coaches who have competed at the highest level in amateur sports (who meet the general criteria of secondary sources published about them)." Being named Defensive Player of the Year in the Big Ten would certainly qualify as having "competed at the highest level in amateur sports". While the references need work, notability is established.
