[edit] AOL News

Benji, did you see the AOL News spoof commercial of Crocker/Tase Me Bro/Miss Teen South Carolina? -- ALLSTARecho 06:03, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

I did, if the tops and bottoms conflict above ever gets resolved that would probably be a decent parody to include and it adds some relevance to other recent youtube memes by comparison. Benjiboi 07:00, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

01. That weblink does not seem to connect to anyhing specific.

02. My machine is not really set to watch it anyhow, I do not have the audio, et-al.

03. Do you mean Lauren Caitlin Upton looking for "such that" "South Africa & Iraq" & Andrew William Meyer?

The video is no longer there, if it appears elsewhere or on YouTube I'd be willing to be someone will repost. Benjiboi 04:36, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Here it is again. -- ALLSTARecho 17:23, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

I just saw it, and if you ask me it perfectly demonstrates the kind of flash-in-the-pan internet memes that do not generally deserve articles on Wikipedia. OK, perhaps the taser incident has some long-term notability, but Chris Crocker's 15 minutes are long since up, and I don't think the Miss Teen South Carolina girl was ever notable in the first place. I look forward to the day when these articles are deleted, and Wikipedia gets a policy on Internetcruft to stop this sort of thing appearing over and over again. Terraxos (talk) 17:30, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Your opinion is hereby noted. You may consider that many memes do, in fact, go onto other successes so we're to write about what is verifiable not our wishes or aspirations. If Crocker does nothing else he'll simply be that guy and wikipedia will have a decent reffed article for anyone who bothers to look him up. Same as all the rest. Benjiboi 21:10, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Although he is generating less interest ever since the Britney video, you can see here that this wikipedia page is still getting at least 2,000 visitors daily, indicating that there is a lasting interest in Chris that is more than simply a meme. I would say that even before the britney video, chris may have deserved a page in wikipedia... he was already getting media attention and a lot of buzz months before the britney video, and being on jimmy kimmel, etc. with articles like this one. There is also much institutional bias, and I believe that there will be some articles in the coming months about youtube.com as a vehicle for censorship, possibly using chris's case and others as examples. [edit] Leave Britney Alone played on VH1

"One of the top videos was the pathetic "Leave Britney Alone" wail, made by Chris Crocker, which has been played on television ad nauseam, including on VH1." Benjiboi 04:11, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pop Culture Top 10 List of Milwaukee's Journal-Sentinel

"Without further ado, here's the Pop Culture Top 10 List: 1. Cry me a river

A new form of voyeuristic entertainment involving people engaged in a deeply personal physical act on camera - crying - is hot stuff, sort of like pornography, only with groans of despair rather than pleasure.

Call it sobography. First there was Chris Crocker, the young man who became a YouTube sensation by videotaping himself tearfully pleading for everyone to "Leave Britney alone!"

Then it was Ellen DeGeneres opening a show in October by breaking down and tearing up over the misadventures of finding a new home for her adopted dog, Iggy." Benjiboi 04:16, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Ellen_DeGeneres#Puppy_drama FYI. Benjiboi 04:18, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Danity Kane "Damaged"

This is Chris' latest video. It's been up for less than a week and is going to break a 1,000,000. It needs to be added on the article. It's also notable since he shows his pubic region and he's purposely dancing suggestively to incite reaction. Also, this video has already got more views than the actual single itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.227.85.117 (talk) 01:44, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Lol. He's special, I'll give him that. We might consider bundling this in some way with the "Watch it" video which sounds about the same theme. Several videos have topped over the two million mark so we certainly could look to adding a few. Benjiboi 02:43, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Date of birth

If Chris Crocker got "crock-blocked" from Hyde on December 7th, on his birthday, (as he himself confirmed to TMZ), then why does it say on here that he was born on December 2nd?

If there is a reliable source stating his birthday is something else then link it here so we can sort out how best to treat it, generally we need something definitive like "Crocker's birthday is ______" (giving month and day). If it's too ambiguous it doesn't really help. Banjeboi 23:58, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NPOV

the tone of this article is clearly bias and in favor of the subject. The color of the infobox, the non mentioning of his hometown, the dubious pipelink to clarksville, tn. The tone is very cavalier and unencylopedic.Myheartinchile (talk) 07:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Sorry but what does a color of an infobox got to do with a POV? Bidgee (talk) 07:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Answer? Nothing. Infobox colors are not customized by article. Banjeboi 01:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
His name and location have been left off, for now at least due to the near-daily death threats against him. If and when a reliable source reveals this information per WP:BIO then we can certainly update the article. I do agree with Myheartinchile that some of the criticism that I had placed in the lede could have stayed there rather than being moved down. Per WP:Lede we are supposed to summarize criticism in context so i would support re-adding some of it back in. Here is essentially what I had put in before:
Crocker's detractors and critics have accused him of melodramatics,[64] histrionics,[20] and using Spears' personal shortcomings to bolster his own fame;[65][66] Others have accused Crocker of acting in the "Leave Britney Alone" video,[67] although he insisted that it was a genuine "blog from the heart" on a 20 September 2007 appearance on the Maury Povich show.[68][10]
I would support moving this paragraph back up into the lede as I feel it fairly summarizes the main criticisms.Banjeboi 01:32, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] References

Numerous unreferenced claims are made in this article. The references needed tag should remain. 90 references or not. Clearly 90 references do NOT cover all the claims made in this entry. Any long article can have even hundreds of references i.e. Hillary Clinton but unreferenced claims must still be supported.Myheartinchile (talk) 07:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

I would rather you state what needs sourcing and or use the {{fact}} to what need sourcing. No use tagging an article without knowing what needs to be sourced. Bidgee (talk) 07:33, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. I had vetted everything up until a few months ago so would be happy to confirm or, if needed, remove anything that isn't true. Banjeboi 01:33, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Brittany Spears comments

Are very notable and important since this dudes claim to fame is defending her. The justification that she was "crazy" when she said that is silly and OR. There is no unbias way of keeping it out. US Magazine is a legitimate third party source.Myheartinchile (talk) 07:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

It's trivial. Read the story. "a Spears pal tells Us." which means the source isn't reliable as this is the only site which has this and it doesn't state who said it so it's just a he said she said situation. Bidgee (talk) 07:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
well it can say, according to US Magazine, sources close to BS have stated that according to BS she thinks x of Chris Crocker. I think we need more opinions on this subject. Furthermore how do you know thats the only place its been stated, how bout we both try and look into that and regroup here a latter time?Myheartinchile (talk) 20:25, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm open to reliable sources if there are any - frankly they both are accomplished at getting media attention and I'm pretty sure that Spears isn't interested in giving Crocker any more attention by discussing him. If there are reliable sources then please post it here so we can sort out how to deal with it. Banjeboi 01:36, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
US Magazine isn't a reliable source?Myheartinchile (talk) 22:16, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
US Magazine can be a reliable source but as pointed out above "It's trivial. Read the story. "a Spears pal tells Us." which means the source isn't reliable as this is the only site which has this and it doesn't state who said it so it's just a he said she said situation." Gossipy items are almost never considered reliable or appropriate for encyclopedic use. Banjeboi 23:51, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] This sentence needs some serious work.

Almost all of Crocker's work has been attributed to his being an openly gay and effeminate Southern adolescent in a "small-minded town" in the Bible Belt where his sexual orientation and outspokenness are a "subtext... rarely addressed directly and never completely accepted.

The cittions do not assert "work" what works? What does his video have to do with him being gay? They are about him being hysterical about that psycho brittany's embrassing behavior and the criticism and mocking she received due to it. What does the video have to do with him being effeminate? or Southern? "Small minded town" is very libelous and is conjecture and opinion and should not link to intolerance, this is not cited. Where is it reliably sourced that the Bible Belt and his small town have rarely address and don't accept his outspokenness. What outspokenness? He speaks out around town about Brittany Spears?Myheartinchile (talk) 00:36, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Crocker had, of that writing produced at least 60-70 vlogs, his "work", and the sentence is accurate and supported by the many interviews with him. In context of all his work the Britney videos were a small portion but the main one got picked up internationally as was his "breakout" vlog. I think the article pretty clearly explains that. Banjeboi 01:40, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Those 60-70 vlogs are not notable and were not reffered to in the citations given. "many" interviews? Which ones are those? His passtime of producing videos is irrelevant filler, only the Brittney video has any notability, the rest are patent nonsense and not mentioned in any other source by name, only in passing in the likes of "oh yeah he made some other videos too". The article does no such thing. Also you have very serious POV issues since you are Chris Crocker.Myheartinchile (talk) 03:38, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Actually several of those vlogs were specifically discussed and those references are in the article itself. There was some discussion when the most notable video came out that the article should be about that video only but consensus was that Crocker himself had become notable and the article would stay focussed on him and a second article only about that video wasn't needed. The article is about the person and, in context to their notability, discusses the video. I'm not sure I would support two separate articles but that's certainly worth considering. Labeling his work as "irrelevant filler", etc falls under I don't like it - note that Wikipedia isn't censored so it may be more to your benefit to find articles about subjects you do like and contribute to those. Banjeboi 04:02, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] incest

Resolved. It wasn't incest - it was a hoax, and not a notable one. Banjeboi 01:41, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

should the allegations of incest and the apparent shock video in which he kisses his own brother on you tube be mentioned.Myheartinchile (talk) 00:03, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Probably not. It's not that notable and is no longer hosted by Crocker himself, he removed it so any copies are posted in violation of YouTube's guidelines. It was a hoax and a bunch of people believed it but it's not that big of deal as of yet. `Banjeboi 00:16, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
are you sure it was a hoax?Myheartinchile (talk) 00:59, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes. In a reliable source he states it was his boyfriend at that time who was in the video with him. Banjeboi 01:06, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

That's not the half of what he was doing with his sister, Betty. I tell ya, man, she was cooking. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 01:31, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] bitch please

is the bitch please video mentioned in the article. it has over 5 million hits.[2]Myheartinchile (talk) 00:12, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Already in article. Banjeboi 00:16, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] infobox color

is it really supposed to be purple? or is that just a style thing. I thought it was supposed to be gray or whitish, like on other celebrity infoboxes and that only language and species articles had a color coded system.Myheartinchile (talk) 00:12, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

All infoboxes have their own style/color, Crocker's is an Internet celebrity infobox and they are purple. Banjeboi 00:18, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
