Image title | DeSoto got the more conventional Airstream styling in 1935 and in 1937, Ray Dietrich designed a DeSoto that became popular for taxicabs. For 1942, the DeSoto moved upscale again, with a larger body and such styling niceties as concealed headlights. That style was revived after the 1942-45 production shutdown for World War II.
DeSoto lost the concealed headlamps for 1946, but got stylish new fadeaway fenders, a new grille and a new nine-passenger Suburban model. For 1949, DeSoto got the corporation's new post-war styling, which did not fare well against the longer, lower, more modern looks of Ford and GM. |
