Chryston

Chryston is a village in the central belt of Scotland in the county of North Lanarkshire. Founded by John James Burns Pollock, It is north of the main trunk road between Glasgow and Stirling (A80).
The village lies north of Muirhead just 7 miles east of Glasgow - the exact boundary between the two villages is difficult to find.
Chryston Parish Church serves the villages of Chryston, Moodiesburn and Muirhead and has churches in Chryston and Moodiesburn.
On Friday 18th September, 1959, 47 miners lost their lives as the result of an explosion at nearby Auchengeich Colliery. Andrew Beattie, who was 10 at the time, has documented this and other local information in a book he has written, The Septimus Curse, which can be read at www.theseptimuscurse.com .
