A Chronology of Irish History to 1976 is volume VIII of "A New History of Ireland", a ten-volume series on all aspects of Irish history and culture, published between 1977 and 2006.
Subtitled "A Companion to Irish History Part I", the introduction describes it as:
"We have here attempted to provide what has hitherto been almost entirely lacking, a chart of events in the history of Ireland from the earliest times to 1976 ... in addition to scientific dating on archaeological evidence, we have inserted a few pseudo-historical dates to illustrate the view medieval Irishmen had of their prehistory."
The Chronology is divided into the following sections:
- Prehistoric and early Ireland:
- (A) to 431, by Francis John Byrne, Charles Doherty and M.J. O'Kelly, pp. 12-16.
- (B) 432 to 1169, by F.J. Byrne and Charles Doherty, pp.16-71.
- Eighteenth Century Ireland 1691-1800, by Moody, Simms, Woods, pp. 254-292.
- Ireland Under the Union 1801-1921, by Moody and Woods, pp. 295-400.
- Ireland 1921-1976, by Moody, Simms and Woods, pp.401-472.
- Index, pp.473-591.
