Deep blue chromis (Chromis abyssus, meaning "color of the abyss") is a chromis discovered in 1997 and described in 2008 by Richard L. Pyle, John L. Earle, Brian D. Greene. The fish's name refers to not only the deep blue color of the fish, which distinguishes it from other chromis, but also the abyss in which the fish lives. The 8 cm fish dwells more than 110 m below the surface of the Pacific Ocean.
