Christos A. Karakolis is a Greek politician. He is a former mayor of Goumenissa.
He was born in Goumenissa in 1933. His parents were Alkiviadis Karakolis and Vasiliki Dimogilis . His family had a tradition in the public affairs of the region from the Ottoman era and was ( from both sides) conservative (anti Venizelist). His grandfather Christos D. Karakolis was murdered during the Macedonian Struggle from Bulgarians as well as his uncle, also Christos H. Karakolis, was murdered by communists in the Civil War. The family Karakolis is connected with the Karakolis of region Sochos of Thessaloniki where also there in 1994 and 1998 Panagiotis Karakolis was elected as Mayor. The two sectors have origin Volos.
Christos A. Karakolis however followed a different political ideology and from the 60s he was a member of Center Union. During the military junta he was hunted by the regime but finally settled at Thessaloniki . In 1974 he joined the Greek sosialist party,PASOK .
He was elected in October 1982 with a 60% percentage and was re-elected in October 1986 with a 52% percentage. In the two electoral confrontations he had the support of PASOK, KKE and KKE Interior. He was the first that included in his party candidate of Rom origin for the municipal council, a thing unthinkable in those years.
In the Municipal elections 1986 KKE, because of the opposition with the economic policy of the Andreas Papandreou government, had candidates in all Municipalities of Greece apart from three Municipalities: Rhodes, Thebes, and Goumenissa, where KKE local organisations insisted in the support of the PASOK Mayors.
He did not claim the Municipality for third term in the Municipal elections of 1990. He lives in Thessaloniki.
