Christopher Lee Ming Shun (simplified Chinese: 李名顺; pinyin: Lǐ Míngshùn,formerly 李铭顺; born 23 July 1971), also spelt Lee Meng Soon. English name Christopher Lee, is a Malaysian of Chinese descent born in Malacca, Malaysia.

Christopher Lee is a model-turned-actor at Singapore's television broadcaster, MediaCorp Studios. He came in second in the male category in MediaCorp's Star Search 1995, a competition held bi-annually to scout for acting talents, and secured an acting contract with the station. Lee was also a former smoker of Mild Sevens Lights, but he quit in late 2005.

Christopher's acting career soared when he bagged the Best Actor Award in Star Awards 1997 for his dramatic performance in The Price Of Peace. In 1998, his portrayal of Yang Guo with Fann Wong in the Singapore version of Return of the Condor Heroes was so successful that he was voted Taiwan's "Most Popular MediaCorp Male Artiste" at Star Awards 1998. Since then, he has been in a number of co-productions, acting alongside regional actors such as Nadia Chan, Jimmy Lin and Jordan Chan. Christopher has also released a solo album in 1999, and occasionally records singles for MediaCorp drama serials.

Christopher Lee acted in various serial dramas, in which most of them are with Fann Wong. From the period of 2005 to the end of 2007, they have denied their relationship. A property agent reported to Mediacorp Channel 8 that Christopher Lee and Fann Wong bought 2 sets of condominium apartment side by side. In 2008, they revealed to the media about the progress of their relationships and admitted that they have planned to get married.^{[citation needed]}

[edit] Drunk driving controversy

At 4.15 am on 8 October 2006, Lee was involved in a hit-and-run accident. He had allegedly knocked down a motorcyclist due to suspected drunk driving, causing the motorcyclist and his pillion rider to suffer superficial injuries to their faces and legs. He was arrested, though later released on bail.

Despite the incident, Lee went on to win an award for being one of the Top 10 Male Artistes in the 2006 Star Awards. In his acceptance speech, he said in Mandarin that he had been feeling terrible over the incident during the previous two months, and that he would be responsible for what he did. Speaking to reporters later, he mentioned that he had been unable to sleep at times, adding that he was very grateful to his fans for their support.^[1]

On 10 May 2007, Lee was fined S$4,500 and given three years disqualification from driving for drunk driving and other traffic offences. He has also been sentenced to four weeks' jail. Lee originally appealed against his jail sentence, but subsequently withdrew his appeal on 28 May 2007. He began to serve his jail sentence at the Queenstown Remand Prison on the same day.^[2] On 15 June 2007, the prosecution succeeded in appealing against his four-week sentence and the court decided to overturn an earlier sentence of a S$3,000 fine for his drunk-driving offence. In its place, Lee was sentenced to an additional two weeks in prison and disqualified from driving for three years. The jail term ran consecutively with his initial four-week punishment, bringing the total imprisonment to six weeks.^[3] On 21 June 2007, the prosecution dropped the last of five charges against Lee for failing to stop after an accident, letting him off with a stern warning instead.^[4] He was released from jail on the morning of 25 June 2007, after receiving a reduction of his sentence for good behaviour.^[5]

As a result of his conviction, he was dropped from playing the male lead in a police drama by MediaCorp TV's Channel 8, Metamorphosis (破茧而出), which aired in 2007. His role was replaced by Thomas Ong.^[6]

On 12 July 2007, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) completed its review on Lee's case, and decided to allow him to retain his Singapore Permanent Resident status. However, he will come under close observation. The ICA would revoke its current decision should Lee violate the law again.^[7]
