[edit] Biography

Christine was discovered at the age of 13 by Kjetil Fluge. When she was 15, Christine signed with the production company Sounds Familiar in Bergen. When she was 16, her father died, which led her to write her first lyrics: "Fly Away". She loves skiing and fast cars. She says it is a pity she doesn't have the time for her hobbies because music takes a lot of her time. "It is a sacrifice I am willing to make", she says. When she describes her private life she says: she is a normal girl with normal interests. Her leisure time is divided between her family, friends and daily chores.

[edit] To Finland and Iceland

Christine has released three albums in the folk-ballad or folk-pop genre. Her 2003 debut album, Surfing in the Air, became a success in Norway, and was subsequently released in Finland. The album sold 30,000 copies, which is considered very good for a Norwegian debut artist. The most memorable song on the CD was the song with the same name, Surfing in the Air, which became a radio hit, and to which she recorded an exotic music video on the weather-beaten and evocative coastal mountain landscapes of the volcanic island in the North Atlantic, Iceland. She hopes that her CDs will be released in additional countries. And if everything goes as planned her CDs will soon be sold in all Scandinavian music shops.

[edit] More subdued moments

Christine Guldbrandsen's "difficult second album", called Moments, was released in December 2004, but it didn't quite have the same appeal to her fans as her first effort. Nevertheless, it entered the official Norwegian album chart VG-lista Topp 40. And the song Because of You was played a lot on national radio, especially on P1 which is the most popular station.

[edit] 2006 Eurovision Song Contest

Christine Guldbrandsen represented her country at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest in Athens, Greece, after winning the Melodi Grand Prix 2006. The Norwegian selection was a Nordic folk song, Alvedansen (The dance of elves) - the only one of 18 entries with Norwegian lyrics. It was an unusual Grand Prix entry, far from the typical schlager as it is an ethno piece spiced with chant, plus fiddle and harmonica. Thea Tunås Bratteng accompanied her on stage, playing the typical Norwegian fiddle instrument hardingfele. Christine won the Bergen semi-final with a convincing performance and live voice, though she had strong competitors in Queentastic and Trine Rein. In Athens, she was placed 14th of 24 finalists.

[edit] Christine

On February 5, 2007, she released her third studio album, simply entitled "Christine". It's her most personal album and this time, Christine was also a co-producer. The album presented ten new songs, all penned by Christine and her co-writers except for one traditional Norwegian folk tune. A new, improved version of her well known song "Alvedansen" was also included. The CD got a very good response from the media in Norway. Most magazines gave the CD 4 stars, some even 5.

[edit] Oslo Spektrum

Christine also sang in the Oslo Spektrum with a medley of Dansekjolen (6th place on the Norwegian Radio Stations chart) and the new Alvedansen.
