Christian Samuel Weiss

Christian Samuel Weiss (February 26, 1780 - October 1, 1856) was a German mineralogist who was born in Leipzig. After graduation he was a physics instructor in Leipzig from 1803 until 1808. In 1810 he became a professor of mineralogy at the University of Berlin.
Weiss is credited for creating the parameters of modern crystallography, and making it a branch of mathematical science. He created a classification of crystals based on their observable external symmetry. Weiss divided crystals into several different crystal systems such as orthorhombic, isometric, tetragonal et al.
