Christian Democratic Federation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Christian Democratic Federation (Federazione Democristiana, FDC) is a federation of christian democratic political parties in Italy.
Originally, an accord was signed between four parties on 30 November 2006:
- Christian Democracy (leader: Giuseppe Pizza)
- Party of Christian Democracy (leader: Angelo Sandri)
- Christian Democratic Refoundation (leader: Publio Fiori)
- Christian Democratic Party (leader: Gianni Prandini)
Two other parties later showed interest in the federation:
- UDEUR Populars (leader: Clemente Mastella)
- Middle-of-the-Road Italy (leader: Marco Follini)
However, at the constituent meeting of the federation in Rome on 17 March 2007, only three parties participated in creating the federation:
The Christian Democratic Party and the Party of Christian Democracy, which considered FDC too much on the left for them, formed the alternative Federation of Christian Democrats and of the Centre.
As of November 2007, Christian Democracy seems be interested both in creating a joint party with UDEUR Populars (whose leader often hints that he may re-unite with the Union of Christian and Centre Democrats) and in joining the Freedom People's Party launched by Silvio Berlusconi. The Christian Democratic Refoundation is closely associated with Christian Democracy and the two parties will present a joint candidate for the 2008 provincial election of Rome: Publio Fiori.
