Christen Sveaas

Christen Sveaas (b. 18 June 1956) is the sole owner and Chairman of the Board of Kistefos, Oslo, Norway. He is a private investor through his wholly owned investment company, Kistefos and Kistefos Træsliberi, where he owns 85%. Kistefos has investments in tanker- and dry cargo-shipping, offshore services, financial services, private equity, venture capital, technology founded investments and real estate development. Kistefos Træsliberi has interests in forestry (about 40 000 acres), and related industrial activities in addition to various financial investments.

Sveaas has during the years served on several boards, Orkla Group, Stolt-Nielsen, Tschudi & Eitzen, Vestenfjeldske Bykreditt, SkipsKredittforeningen and Treschow-Fritzøe. Presently Sveaas is senior advisor to EQT, the Swedish private equity firm, and member of Deans Council, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Sveaas is also initiator, member of the Board of Directors and main sponsor of the Kistefos Museum, the original and fully intact wood pulp mill from 1889, built by his grandfather. Furthermore he is the Chairman of the board for the Anders Sveaas’ Allmennyttige Fond, a Norwegian charitable foundation founded in 1990. Its focus is to support organisations without relevant public funding, and young promising classical musicians’ through scholarships and instrument loans. The foundation supports Mari Silje and Håkon Samuelsen by loan of a Guadagnini 1753 violin and a Ruggieri 1688 cello, and to David Coucheron a Stradivari 1725 violin and to Eldbjørg Hemsing a Montagnana 1735 violin.

Sveaas has a Lic.Oec. HSG-degree from the University of St. Gall, Switzerland.
