The Christ College of Law (also known as CCL) is one of the professional undergraduate schools of Christ College, Bangalore. The parent college, a premier educational institution, is an academic fraternity of individuals dedicated to the motto of excellence and service and already has a proven history of success in the field of education.[1] CCL is located in the sprawling 200 acre Christ College campus. Christ College of Law is approved by the Bar Council of India to conduct the B.A., LL.B. course. The College offers a five-year integrated law program, the successful completion of which will earn the student a B.A., LL.B. degree to be awarded by Bangalore University. CCL, in addition to the mandatory courses required by Bangalore University over the ten semester program, has introduced for the benefit of its students numerous other value-added courses and programs aimed at putting the student on par with the standard of legal education imparted at the best international universities. The B.A., LL.B course at CCL is oriented towards the industry and is aided by an advisory board composed of some of the leading lights in the legal fraternity.

Within the short span after it was established, CCL has gathered a reputation within the judiciary as well as all the major law firms in India. CCL faculty and the curriculum has been acknowledged as on par with internationally reputed institutions. CCL has more funds allocated for expansion than any other law school in India.

There are a few things that set CCL apart from the other law schools in India. In a years span CCL has established one of the best law libraries in India. The student- teacher ratio is higher at CCL than at any other law school in India. CCL has spent more funds that any other law school in India in its inception years towards establishing infrastructure. CCL also boasts the most number of faculty members who have been trained at institutions of international repute. Institutions like London School of Economics ("LSE") and Warwick University have already expressed interest in having our students over at these institutions for higher education. The Universities have already made presentations to CCL students on what they look for in a candidate.

[edit] Admission

Christ College of Law conducts an All India Common Entrance Test at various centres across India for the Programme. The CCL entrance exam has gathered a reputation for being able to test the right things in a student rather than expecting a certain level of understanding of the law in the candidate. Candidates who have passed their 10+2 examination or its equivalent with a minimum of 45% marks at the final examination are eligible to appear for the entrance examination. The candidates should also be below the age of 21 years as on 01 April of the year for which they are seeking admission. Persons who intend to apply must download the application form from the college website [1] and follow the instructions pertaining to submission of the form carefully. Admissions for students applying under International students category and Foreign National category have to go through a different application process. Candidates scoring the minimum qualifying marks in the entrance examination and also satisfying other qualifying criteria will be called for an interview at the Christ College campus. [edit] Course Structure and Faculty

The curriculum for the course is a mix of social science subjects and legal subjects. In the first two years, students are taught History, Political Science, Sociology and Economics along with value-added courses such as Introduction to Law and Legal Methods. After the first two years, it is mostly legal subjects that constitute the curriculum.

The current faculty at Christ College of Law consists of teachers from some of the best international and national universities such as the London School of Economics ("LSE"), the University of Warwick, Columbia University, the University of Arizona,the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences ("NUJS"), National Law School of India Univerisity ("NLSIU"), Delhi University ("DU")and Jawaharlal Nehru University ("JNU"). The college also has an advisory board consisting of eminent personalities in the legal fraternity to advice and fine-tune the curriculum to the needs of the industry and the profession. Christ College's reputation as a provider of quality education itself attracts faculty from all over India and outside of India.

[edit] Moot Courts, Client Counselling and Other Activities

Students of Christ College of Law have made their presence felt at national and international moot court and client counselling competitions. The current faculty has experience both in terms of participating in National and International Moot Court Competitions and training students to compete at these events and also judging international moot court competitions.

Apart from Moot Courts and Client Counselling events, the college also invites eminent persons from various disciplines to address the students. The following personalitie4s have already addressed the students Justice Michael Saldanha, Former Chief Justice, High Court of Karnataka; Mr. Frederick Kaplan, Public Affairs Officer United States Consulate; the speech-writer to the Canadian Prime Minister; Mr. Rajeev Gowda, eminent politician and Professor at IIMB; Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Director of the International Academy for Creative Teaching (iACT) and Mr. Upendra Baxi. The college expects that these events will motivate those students intending to pursue careers that are considered unconventional and challenging.

CCL was also the venue for the Judges round table conference on Intellectual Property Rights in 2007.

Besides the above, the students of Christ College of Law are advised to participate in extra - curricular activities like debates, quizzes, mock U.N. competitions along with generic other activities like dancing, music and the like on a high prority basis. The College fest, Juristar, 2008 was a big success with students, juniors and seniors alike, actively taking part.

The College Committess like Cultural Committee (CultCom), Literary Committee (LitCom), Sports Committee, Moot Society are student managed bodies which enable students to innovate and hold interesting competitions.

The students of Christ College of Law have access to three different library facilities namely the General Library; the specialized Law Library and the online library

The General Library offers students an excellent selection of books and magazines on all subjects. The back issues of the leading management journals, Indian as well as international, and an EBSCO database consisting of 110 Journals and a monthly online commentary on Indian Economy through the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, are also available. The General Library and the Law library work from 9 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. Along with 62,000 books and 173 journals and periodicals, there is a good collection of audio and videotapes for use of faculty and students. The library information is already computerised, which facilitates the use of the library with regard to the availability of books and articles. The library provides photocopying facilities to the faculty and students. CCL also subscribes to law specific online databases like Westlaw, HeinOnline, LexisNexis, JSTOR and Manupatra.

Sports and games facilities are provided on campus in order to attain physical growth and nurture sportsman spirit among students. The college has separate courts for most major games like basketball, football, volleyball and hockey. Intra-college and inter-college matches give students ample opportunity to develop their talents and skills.[2]
