[edit] Background

Chrissie is the daughter of Nursing Consultant Mark Williams and former staff nurse Tricia Williams. Originally a Ward Sister, she was promoted to the post of Clinical Matron in 2006, although after a brief leave of absence, currently has reverted back to her former role as Darwin's Ward Sister. During the course of the show, she was briefly married to Consultant Obstetrician Owen Davies, with whom she had a premature daughter, Amanda, who lived for only a few hours.

[edit] Overview

Chrissie has never been overly popular amongst her nursing staff. Shortly after she arrived at Holby, it was revealed that her nickname in her previous hospital was 'Cruella de Vil'. She expects the best from her team, and has from time to time reprimanded her own parents when she felt their performance was not satisfactory.

Chrissie is also known for her disastrous love life. She had affairs with Consultant Cardiac Surgeon Alistair Taylor, Consultant Obstetrician Owen Davies, Obstetrics Registrar Mubbs Hussein, Cardiothoracic Surgical Registrar Ed Keating, Chairman of the Board (Acting) Michael Beauchamp and most recently has been rebuffed by Cardiothoracic Surgical Registrar Sam Strachan.

Despite her love life evidently often spilling over into her work, Chrissie is an efficient nurse. While she was once promoted by Michael Beauchamp purely as a result of their relationship, she retained the position through her own merit.

[edit] Character History

Chrissie is currently the longest-serving of the main characters in Holby City, having been in the show since the final episode of the third series in 2001.

Upon her arrival at Holby City Hospital, Chrissie was quick to clash with several of her colleagues, including Sandy Harper and Jasmine Hopkins. Chrissie expected a high standard of work, and proved quickly that she would tolerate nothing less - reprimanding Sandy harshly for occasionally being a few minutes late to start her shifts.

Early in series 4, Chrissie began an affair with married Cardiothoracic Consultant Alistair Taylor. He quickly became besotted with her, and ignored Chrissie's repeated attempts to rebuke him. In episode 'Shadow of a Doubt (Part Two)', Chrissie attempted to severe all relations between them, and was saved by Obstetrics Consultant Owen Davies when Alistair attempted to restrain her physically.

Chrissie's relationship with Owen developed alongside her affair with Alistair. The pair had known each other before arriving in Holby, and had once had an affair which had almost ended his marriage. Almost as soon as her affair with Alistair was over, she resumed flirting with Owen, attempting to once more lure him away from his wife, Laura. Although Owen initially resisted, the pair slept together in episode 'Winner Takes It All' and were discovered by Owen's young daughter Katie. Katie revealed Owen's indiscretion to her mother, who once more terminated their relationship, leaving Owen and Chrissie free to get together. Throughout the remainder of the series, Chrissie struggled to get along with Katie, and proved resistant to making any firm commitments to Owen - although agreed to move in with him in episode 'The Private Sector'.

During series 5, despite becoming engaged to Owen, Chrissie began an affair with Cardiothoracic Registrar Ed Keating. When she discovered that she was pregnant, she was unsure whether the father was Ed or Owen. Her affair was eventually revealed to Owen accidentally by his colleague, Mubbs Hussein. He immediately ended their relationship, leaving Chrissie to move in first with Lisa Fox, and then her mother Tricia, recently returned from an extended stay in Spain. In episode 'Seasons in the Sun' Chrissie went into premature labour, and Owen was forced to deliver her child by caesarean section. Her daughter was born with irreversible brain damage, and Chrissie was able to spend only a few short minutes with her, holding her daughter for the first time only after her life support had been switched off. Although Owen had ordered a paternity test after the birth of the child, named Amanda, he declined to look at the results, tearing them up and throwing them away.

Chrissie later told Owen that she wanted a divorce, and Owen began an affair with her mother, Tricia. Although Owen and Chrissie briefly attempted to reunite in early series 6, upon discovering this betrayal, Chrissie once more terminated their relationship, and had a one night stand with Mubbs.

Chrissie's relationship with her mother was for a long time marred by her affair with Owen. Although after taking a refresher course, Tricia began working as a nurse within the hospital, it took Chrissie a long time to forgive her. When she discovered Tricia had breast cancer, Chrissie travelled to London to track down her estranged father, Mark, and persuade him to come to Holby. Relations between her parents were initially poor - however, in time the pair reconciled, and attempted to rebuild their marriage.

During this period, Owen began a relationship with General Surgical Registrar Diane Lloyd. Chrissie was notably jealous, especially after the pair became engaged, and enticed Owen to sleep with her the day before his wedding. Disappointed that he chose to go through with marrying Diane, Chrissie let things lie for almost a year between her and Owen. She had a brief affair with Michael Beauchamp - husband of current Clinical Lead Connie Beauchamp, and was instrumental in aiding Connie to bring about his downfall after it was revealed Michael had purposely let VRSA into the hospital, resulting in the death of a young girl.

As Owen's relationship with Diane became strained, Chrissie once more attempted to pursue him. It initially seemed that she may have won, when Owen went as far as to leave Diane for her, however the death of his first wife Laura meant that he realized he had to take greater responsibility for his daughter Katie than ever before. In episode 'The Long Goodbye', Owen resigned from his position at the hospital, and told Chrissie that from now on, his daughter had to come first. This marked the permanent end of their protracted on and off relationship.

After losing Owen, Chrissie's life became once more dominated by her parent's relationship. Chrissie was disgusted to discover that Mark was not her natural father, and refused to speak to her mother for several months. To this day, Chrissie remains unaware that Mark is her half brother, and that she herself is the product of her mother's rape by her grandfather, Frank Williams. The pair only began to reconcile when, after her parent's remarriage, Chrissie discovered her mother was once more suffering from cancer. She was initially angry at having been kept in the dark, however came to accept her mother's actions following a heart to heart with Diane. Tricia and Mark set off on a second honeymoon, ecstatic that Tricia appeared to be in remission from her cancer once more, however were involved in a car crash en-route. Chrissie was devastated when later that day, Tricia succumbed to her injuries and they were asked to switch off her life support.

After her mother's death, Chrissie came to increasingly rely on the support and friendship of Cardiothoracic Registrar Sam Strachan. The pair became quite close, however their blossoming relationship was damaged first by Sam's revelation that he was the father of Connie Beauchamp's child, and then by Chrissie's discovery of fourteen year old prostitute Jade McGuire in Sam's bed. Weighed down by this spiraling downturn of events since her mother's death, Chrissie took a leave of absence from the hospital. Although Chrissie recently returned in episode 'Deep Dark Truthful Mirror', her future at the hospital as well as the future of her relationship with Sam, remains to be seen. But in December 2007, sexual health nurse Tim, made a frenzie attack by a cross bow and shot Faye and Zoe, and almost Martha Hope. Chrissie is the only staff to witness this. On 19th December 2007, Martha and Faye survived the shooting. However, Zoe didn't make it. Martha and Chrissie later found themselves trapped in a lift - the lift was actually disabled during aftermath of the shooting. In the lift, Martha had bled and Chrissie promised her that she will do something about her brother James' court sentence. Which led Mark to be in the witness stand. Later, Chrissie and the security officer found Tim on the stairs, feeling sorry. Chrissie took the crossbow from him and he was later found dead by comitting suicide.

On 5th February 2008, Chrissie found herself in a hostage situation after her ex-boyfriend Stuart McElroy slashed her face with a scalpel. He gagged her while he stitched her wound. However, Chrissie knocked over a tray, which Connie heard from outside the locked theatre. The episode ended with Connie banging on the locked theatre door.

On 12th February 2008, Chrissie went into hiding after her attack and Stuart tried to convince Connie that Chrissie slashed her own face. Connie wasn't fooled however and persuaded Chrissie to help set him up. Chrissie was sittinng in Connie's office when Stuart walked in. Stuart apolgised for his actions and confessed. He didn't know he was being recorded and made a run for it, leaving Sam and the security guard to give chase. After catching him up, Sam punched Stuart to the ground and Stuart was arrested. Connie told Chrissie that she will be scarred for life.

Chrissie decided to leave Holby, to clear her head after the attack.
