Chris Vangas

Chris Vangas (born April 13, 1985) is a former American college football player.

Chris was born April 13, 1985, in Vandalia, Ohio, to Rod and Becky Vangas. Chris attended Chaminade-Julienne High School in Dayton, Ohio.

In High School Chris was a first team All-Ohio Division II player for state champion Chaminade-Julienne High, first team All-Southwest Ohio, first team all-area, first team All-Greater Catholic League, All-Dayton Catholic, Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Catholic League North Division Offensive Lineman of the Year, and a three-year starter at center. He led Chaminade-Julienne to the 2002 Ohio Division II championship with a 14-1 record. The team went 30-9 (.769) during his three years as a starter, including state playoff berths each season. He was selected to play in the Ohio All-Star Classic, SuperPrep All-Midwest Team, and PrepStar All-Midwest Region. He was rated one of the top 50 prospects in Ohio and the nation's No. 13 center prospect by Rivals.com. He played under Coach Jim Place. He earned three football letters.

Vangas attended the University of Pittsburgh at 6'2 310 lbs. He was widely recruited but signed early to concentrate on academics.

In 2003 Vangas redshirted his freshman year.

In 2004 Vangas appeared in six games as the chief reserve at center to letter. He saw his most extensive playing time at South Florida when he replaced the injured Justin Belarski on the opening series and played the balance of the game, a 43-14 victory.

In 2005 Vangas played in all 11 games to earn his second letter. He contributed as the second-string center and on special teams.

In 2006 Vangas played in all 12 games to letter for a third year. He contributed on special teams and as the top reserve at center.

In 2007 Vangas was scouted as an experienced letterman who eyes the starting center assignment this year and served as the chief backup at that position each of the last three seasons. He has been a special teams contributor during his career and was praised by offensive line coach Paul Dunn for his leadership and smarts. Vangas started all games in 2007.

Vangas did play a large part in Pitt defeating #2 West Virginia on December 1, 2007, thereby spoiling their National Championship.
