Chris Tremain is a New Zealand politician, and currently serves as a member of Parliament.

Tremain was born in Napier in 1966, and attended Napier Boys' High School and Massey University.

He has owned and operated a number of businesses in the Hawke's Bay region. In the 2005 election, Tremain was a candidate for the National Party, standing in the Napier electorate and being ranked 52nd on the party list. He won the Napier seat and entered Parliament.

Chris' father Kel Tremain is regarded as one of the greatest All Black flankers, who captained the highly successful Hawke's Bay during the 1960's Ranfurly Shield era.

The Napier Electorate

Tremain won the Napier Electorate for the National Party for the first time in over 50 years, beating incumbent Russell Fairbrother by 3951 votes [1].

While a variety of reasons were put forward for Tremain winning, or Fairbrother losing, the biggest contributing factor was the change to the seat with the introduction of MMP. A rural voting area was added, and the right leaning areas of Taradale and Greenmeadows also joined the electorate, with Tremain winning 7 out of 8 booths in these areas.

Napier has become far more prosperous, and the traditional Labour strongholds of Ahuriri and Westshore have become upmarket locations in the last decade.
