Christopher ("Chris") Lee Thompson (born November 30, 1978 in San Diego, California), (raised in Roseburg, Oregon) is an American swimmer, who won the bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in the 1500 m Freestyle. He was the second American swimmer to go below the 15 minute mark on the 1500m and held the American Record for 4 years. He attended the University of Michigan where he was a member of the varsity team from 1997 to 2001. Both at Michigan and as a post graduate Chris swam under legendary coach Jon Urbanchek from 1997 to 2004. He was coached by Jerry Olszewski of King Aquatic Club in Federal Way, Washington. Jerry is now the Head Coach of Scottsdale Aquatic Club in Scottsdale, Arizona and has been since 2002.
Most of his friends from college use his nickname of Bird. He is an avid fantasy baseball participant, despite the fact that his teams rarely do well.
