Chris Heyde

Christopher Charles "Chris" Heyde AM (April 20, 1939 – March 6, 2008) was a prominent statistician who was a professor at Columbia University and The Australian National University, Canberra.[1][2][3][4]
Heyde was born in Sydney, Australia. He was made an Honorary Life Member in 1981 of the Statistical Society of Australia. He was awarded the Pitman Medal in 1988[5], and served as President of the Society.
He was editor of the Australian Journal of Statistics. He was a fellow of the Australian Academy of Sciences and the Australian Academy of Social Sciences.
He was made a Member of the Order of Australia "for service to mathematics, particularly through research into statistics and probability, and to the advancement of learning in these disciplines".[6]
He also worked at the University of Melbourne, CSIRO, University of Manchester, University of Sheffield, Michigan State University, and the Australian National University, where he did leading research in probability, stochastic processes and statistics.
Heyde died due to metastatic melanoma.
