Christopher Raymond "Chris" Blackburn (born August 2, 1982 in Chester, England) is an English footballer who is currently playing for Aldershot Town as a defender.
[edit] Playing career
Blackburn began his career with Chester City, making his first-team debut in 1999 and becoming a regular a year later as a central midfielder. He memorably took over as goalkeeper in a 5-2 win over Dagenham & Redbridge in 2002 after Wayne Brown was sent off, with Blackburn joining relatives Andy Oakes and Michael Oakes in having played between the sticks. His uncle, Alan Oakes, was a former player and manager at Chester and a long-serving midfielder with Manchester City.
After leaving Chester in 2003, Blackburn played for Northwich Victoria and was signed by Jim Harvey for Morecambe on February 14, 2004, initially until the end of the season.[1]
He made his debut at Christie Park against Barnet on February 21, 2004 and, despite playing just 5 games, was given a two year contract which was extended by a year in the summer of 2006. Blackburn was moved to central defence following an injury crisis in the area, and excelled in the position, forming a formidable partnership with Jim Bentley.
His consistent performances for the Shrimps attracted the attention of other league clubs. Blackburn signed for Swindon Town on 9 July 2007.[2] He had a loan spell with Weymouth towards the end of the 2007-08 season before departing Swindon by mutual consent. He signed for Aldershot Town shortly after.[3]
