[edit] Biography
Chris attended Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, Virginia; attending college at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia where he met current bandmates John Campbell and Mark Morton.
Typically, he writes his drum parts after other band members have brought him some riffs and ideas. As seen on the Killadelphia DVD, Adler tries to create unique music while not taking anything away from the riffs or the song itself. Utilizing strong symmetry in his drumming and being highly skilled in his double bass work, Adler also creates unique sticking patterns to go along with his unique double bass playing style. One of the main reasons for the unique sticking style is that he is a left-handed drummer on a right-handed set.
Adler has been influenced by drummers of the metal world including Lars Ulrich of Metallica, Shannon Larkin of Godsmack, Dave Lombardo of Slayer, and Vinnie Paul, drummer for the now defunct Pantera and Damageplan and current drummer and founding member of the band Hellyeah, as well as other drummers such as Bill Bruford, Sid Baxter, Terry Bozzio and Billy Cobham
[edit] Equipment
Chris Adler uses Saturn Pro Series Mapex drums, a 12 inch Mapex Black Panther Birdseye-Maple snare, and Gibraltar hardware. He also uses and endorses Aquarian drumheads, Pro-mark signature drumsticks, Axis Bass Drum pedals and Meinl cymbals. Meinl produced the 24" MB20 Pure Metal Ride just for him and helped with the creation of the 12" Soundcaster Custom Distortion Splash. He also uses a Roland pad and TD-7 Module to trigger an 808.
